In 2010 I was thrilled to use my 20+ years of teaching and performance experience to open the Jane Fitzgerald Music Studio. I also teach for the Shrewsbury Public Schools’ Instrumental Lesson Program, and have instituted instrumental music classes for the Rutland Recreation Department’s “Under the Learning Tree” program.
I feel very fortunate to be teaching music. Every student I work with is enjoyable and interesting in their own way. It is very rewarding when a student figures something out – there is nothing better than witnessing a student’s feeling of accomplishment and increased enjoyment of music.
My first priority for teaching is the success of my students. I teach each student at their own pace, keeping in mind their goals, age and ability level. While keeping expectations high, the studio's environment is one of positive, patient encouragement. Materials are carefully chosen to be both educational and enjoyable.
I received my Bachelor of Music degree from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon in 1985. In 1988, I completed my Master of Music in Trumpet Performance degree at Boston University. In 1998 I received my license to teach preK-12 Music in Massachusetts public schools. Since that time, while continuing to teach privately, I have had the pleasure of teaching public school band and general music in communities including Lawrence, Shirley, Sharon, Hudson, and Sterling.
Before moving to central Massachusetts with my family in 2000, I taught private lessons and played professionally in the Boston area. Some of the ensembles I’ve performed with include: The Boston Civic Orchestra, New England Philharmonic, The Brass Consortium, Metropolitan Wind Symphony, Atlantic Brass Quintet, Chorus Pro Musica, Cape Ann Symphony Orchestra, and the Empire Brass Quintet.
